Besides it being as the original, I have also added a lot of displays that better 'describe' what is happening behind the scenes.

For example, each Ghost has a target to which it wants to get to, which changes based on the modes they are currently in and/or Pac-Man's current position. Besides having different targets; their decision-making logic on how to get to their desired position is completely the same.

Another example of displays are aformentioned modes - Scatter & Chase - with which one can see how long each mode lasts.

Short descriptions are inside the options menu, but if you want to have more details on the mechanics, head on to my Pac-Man GitHub page where I have gathered all the necessary information on how the original game functions; personally used to make my own version.

Besides not having the complete intro sequence, my version also doesn't have the 256 level glitch, as I deemed it unnecessary and too complex to make.

The things I thought to be interesting to add are CRT shader and correcting Pinky's UP target. Both can be toggled in the options.

No, I don't know why the Pac-Man is squarish when using the CRT shader. I am just a newbie. Credit to shader: Realistic CRT shader by c64cosmin.

Ha!  Nice update!  :)

If you are interested in continued tweaks and fixes, I'm happy to help.  If you'd rather just call it "done" now, that's fine too, it's pretty darned perfect.

Didn't know about MAME, which is very cool.

Well, my version was never supposed to be complete and perfect, it was only done for learning Godot. You are trying to provoke my autistic side by mentioning adjustments :)

You do seem interested and I would like to know why?

I have nothing against tweaking and fixing, though it depends on my ability to fix things and dificulty/time it takes.

Hey, I just thought it was an excellent recreation -- I was hunting around for available recreations last week and I thought yours was pretty great, that's all.  I think it's good enough now, I'll let you get back to whatever else you were doing.  :)

This is amazing.  Except Pac-Man starts to the right.  That hurts my brain.  Can... can you fix that?  :D

Really!? He isn't supposed to go right?
Gosh darn it, I didn't know that. I only watched some videos of people playing Pac-Man; guess they prefer to go right.

So Pac-Man is supposed to go left at the start of each level if you don't touch the controls? Is that what you are saying?
My version would surely be frustrating for anyone how played Pac-Man exstensively 😅

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic, but if not, then yes, in the actual arcade game, Pac-Man starts going left when the game starts.

And if you're NOT being sarcastic, then how did you create a virtually perfect replica of the original game, including fixing an obscure bug with Pinky, without ever playing the game?  :D

"Starts going left..." - Now this bothers me as well. I'll dig through the code and see if I can correct it; already forgot what's in there :)

I know there are a lot of ways to play Pac-Man, but none of those are the original arcade Pac-Man: they are all copies. Maybe they are near perfect copies, but there is no way for me to know that, i.e. there might have been differences in the gameplay itself from the original version. I didn't want to copy those differences, so the only way for me to "feel" gameplay was to watch it played on the arcade like Arcade Game: Pac-Man (1980 Namco (Midway License for US release)).

Even if I had the opportunity to play, I don't think I would have been able to copy the mechanics without someone explicitly telling me about them. Thankfully, there are a lot of resources that describe the mechanics. The most noteworthy is The Pac-Man Dossier. I took notes and added them in README on my GitHub, which is like a water-downed version, but it's probably more digestible. You can also find other resources I used in the README.

But... my version is definitely not perfect. For example, I omitted the 256 Glitch and I am sure that there are other things that can be found, just like you did for the Pac-Man's starting direction ;)

Lastly, thank you for your kind words of praise pinback, they are a perfect condiment to the work that went into making this game. 🙏

Very informative and interesting, thanks for the reply.  Of course, there's MAME for getting the true experience since it runs the original ROMs, but however you did it, the results were fantastic.  (Except for the starting direction.  :) )

Wow, this looks great, sounds are nice as well.

nice :)

Well, they gotta be ;)
